Arches (remade)

Broke the original arches, so the first big thing to be fired in the new kiln. Need some more glazed white cases. Not sure I didn’t prefer it unglazed, but will be better for the train projection..

Signature Art Awards

Attended this on Thursday and was really ecstatic to win the People’s Choice award! Which meant my piece was voted the best by the public, about 3,000 votes or something like that!

Although my portfolio is on my website. Thought it productive to also post the final photos on here:

Déjà Vus

Video clips are projected onto larger white pieces, disrupting the surface and static nature of these defined forms. By being captured on video, these moments become unreal themselves, not of the physical realm.

Night Voyage

dream
1.a sequence of images that appear involuntarily to the mind of a sleeping person, often a mixture of real and imaginary characters, places, and events.

Dreams pose a challenge to our rational model of the world. I am interested in this borderland on the edges of our conscious experience, the tension between illusion and reality, ethereality and permanence. Crystallising these experiences in sculpture, creates a bridge between these different states of reality, from the subconscious to the material, to create a landscape of dreams.

The series of dreamt objects are made of porcelain, an inherently fragile material, which, through the making process has the ability to warp slightly, bearing relation to the distortion of our waking remembrances. The objects are presented as a group, a stream of dreaming consciousness, you could say, connected, by a single object or moment which triggers the next memory.

The miniature size of the work also references the domestic environment and ornaments, by creating objects of this scale, the viewer is invited to peer into a parallel, condensed world, only accessible by imagining ones place within it. Each piece is glazed in a solid glossy black, a veil through which the original colours have been lost.

Prices for individual pieces start from £125.

Suspension A small crate holds suspended an impossibility.

Be nice to photograph the white ones once in the exhibition space to get with black backgrounds, but here you can see the lovely glossy creaminess of the porcelain.

Train projected on arches

leave a comment »

White objects on black is definitely the way forward. This is a clip I shot on the train back home when it was snowing, projected onto the arches and luggage. Its quite clear. Theme-travelling. I need to experiment with some other clips of dank, dark alleyways and also put in some sound, train, whistles, drips or otherwise.
